new york, therapists, therapyWelcome to the New York Mental Health Counselor Association's Metro Chapter.  We are made up of individuals at all stages of their careers in the field of mental health counseling- from graduate students to seasoned, licensed professionals.

Mental health counselors are masters level clinicians that have specialized training in counseling who work in private practices as psychotherapists, as well as in mental health agencies, schools and other institutions.

After completing accredited masters programs, mental health counselors have at least 3000 hours (2-3 years) of supervised experience before being licensed by the State to practice independently.  Mental health counselors work with individuals, families and groups on issues ranging from anxiety and depression to PTSD, sexual dysfunctions, career counseling and others.  LMHC's have been recognized by the New York State Education Department as one of four licensed mental health practitioners since 2006, and have been licensed in states across the country for decades.

We invite you to search by name, zip code or key word for a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) who has clinical membership in NYMCHA Metro Chapter.
